Air Conditioned Homes To Cold For Pets?

With the summer coming, many us will crank up the air conditioning unit to cool down our houses to a comfortable temperature for us, but what about our pets.  Do our pets enjoy the cooler temps that we do?  It appears that most pets prefer to not be in an air conditioned house.

Many pets actually prefer a slightly warmer temperature than we do.  This is likely due to several reasons.  First of all, they have much less body mass than we do and when you have less body mass you are more susceptible to environmental temperature changes.

Second, hot air rises, and cold air sinks, so most of that cooler air flows along the floor where our pets walk, sleep and eat.

Third, cats and dogs have higher normal body temperatures than us and they need to maintain them.

You can still keep your house cool and your pet comfortable if you make some slight modifications.  First of all you could to try and keep the house just a little bit warmer.  Make a compromise and try to keep it comfortable for everyone.

Second, a nice heating pad or heated pet bed can give a nice place of refuge for pets that want some warmth on a cold floor.  To learn more about heated pet beds go to:  Therapeutic Dog Beds.
