Begging At Mealtime and Your Dog’s Bed

Having a designated spot for your dog to lie is a great training opportunity.  If your dog barks a lot at guests coming to the door or your dog begs a lot at mealtime why not train your dog to go sit on his bed for 15 minutes with a simple command.

I normally just say “go to bed” and point and my dog will go to his bed and lay down, although sometimes very reluctantly.

Start off with just walking your dog over to the bed and staying with him for a few minutes.

Then just stand across the room and make your dog stay on the bed for 5 minutes and work up the time period from there.

Next make your dog stay on the bed when you are in the next room, standing by the front door, or sitting by the dinner table.

This is why it is great to have a dog bed.  For a large selection check out:  Therapeutic Dog Beds.
