Tips For Buying Heated Dog Beds

With quite a few heated dog beds out there sometimes it can be hard to decide between them.  Your goal in buying a heated dog bed should be in buying one that is safe and provides even heating throughout the bed.  I put together a list of features to look for to help you decide if a bed is going to be safe for your dog.

  • Water Resistant Heating Unit:  Although dog beds rarely get wet, but in some cases they do.  Sometimes your dog may have an accident in the bed, or someone mistakenly put it outside.  In these cases having a water resistant heating unit is important.
  • Chew Resistant Power Cord:  This is a must have feature of electric dog beds.  Not all dogs chew on cords, but the ones who do seem to be very persistent with their chewing, which is why it is mandatory to have a chew resistant cord.
  • Removable Washable Cover:  Obviously with a heating element in the bed, you cannot wash it.  So have a removable cover that is washable is vital in order to keep your dog’s bed smelling and looking great.
  • Even Heating Throughout:  With some inferior heating elements you get uneven heating in the bed.  This can lead to hot spots that could burn your dog.  Look for manufacturers that build quality beds and that advertise that their dog beds provide even heating.
  • Accurate Temperature Control:  This one if very important.  Try to find a dog bed that has adjustable temperature control so you can decide how much heat to provide.
  • Replacement Covers:  If you are spending good money on a heated dog bed, buy a replacement cover at the same time.  This will save you a lot of time and frustration in the future when you need one.

I hope these tips for buying heated dog beds help to make your buying decision easier.
